SOTA 2001

For the past four years the Santana family has hosted a benefit for The School of the Arts (SOTA) in San Francisco. This years benefit was very special in that the Santana Band, along with some very special guests, joined together for the cause. The night began with performances by the student Theatre Group, dance performances, Chamber music, Jazz Bands and a live auction. Then Carlos, Chester, Benny & Billy joined the student Orchestra for a beautiful Version of Benny Rietveld’s ‘Posada’, 'Concerto de Aranjuez' and Chic Corea's ‘Spain’. The student Orchestra sounded amazing with Carlos augmenting their sound to new heights of beauty and elegance. After a quick change over, The Santana Band took the stage for what could be their only performance of 2001. There were many special guests including Cheech Marin (as Master of Ceremonies), Kirk Hammett (from Metallica), Tommy Castro and the students of SOTA including Carlos’s Son. The evening was a tremendous success. Take a look at some pictures from SOTA in the Photo Gallery. To see the set list, please click here.
RollingStone.com ‘s photo gallery has some great photos of the SOTA event as well as shots from past tours with Everlast, Macy Gray, The Grammys, Rolling Stone cover shots & more.
Fred Dotson, from The San Francisco Examiner, interviewed
Carlos about SOTA at the event. The article is scheduled to appear in this Friday's (May 4) Examiner.
