Be a Weapon of Mass Compassion
We would like to ask for your help with a cause that is very near and dear to Carlos and Deborah's hearts.
You might remember that Carlos and Deborah donated $2.5 million dollars, the entire proceeds from his 2003 Summer Shaman Tour, to Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) to establish the Amandla AIDS Fund. ANSA and its Fund supports effective African led-efforts to fight HIV/AIDS. With a portion of these funds, ANSA also created a remarkable, innovative program that provides care and service to AIDS orphans. Thanks again to all of you who bought tickets for that tour. Your support has made a huge impact.
Last October, Carlos, Deborah, Salvador and Angelica--along with their friends and fellow ANSA supporters, Samuel L. Jackson & LaTanya Richardson, Alfre Woodard, CCH Pounder and Jurnee Smollett, traveled to South Africa to see firsthand the programs they've funded. They met with orphans and HIV positive people whose lives have been saved, and activists and caregivers whose work they support. They were all deeply moved by the impact ANSA's grants and programs have had, as well as by the tremendous need that remains.
There's a very easy way for you to help Carlos and Deborah's efforts for AIDS orphans. All you need to do is cast a vote and ask your friends to vote, too. . If you are an American Express cardholder, go to www.membersproject.com and register. (Just for doing that, AmEx will donate another dollar to the Members Project).
By July 15, vote for American Express Members Project number #6841 - Help African Children Orphaned by AIDS, which is ANSA's program.
This project has already made it into the Top 50 out of 7000 entries. Help us get into the Top 25 and then to get all the way to the top. The winning project will be announced on August 7 and will receive up to $5 million dollars from American Express.
